The Society for Hospitality and Foodservice Management (SHFM) Foundation is pleased to announce Michigan State University is the recipient of the 2020 Hospitality and Foodservice Original Research Award.

The Foundation established the research award in order to fund the investigation of key operation and management issues in the hospitality and corporate foodservice industry. The Michigan State University proposal was selected for this honor from a field of U.S. schools. The research team, consisting of Michigan State faculty and students will investigate Comprehensive Understanding of Delight and its Impact on the Sustainable Hospitality Business.

shfmfndlogofinalThe research team will attend the 2020 SHFM National Conference, at which they will further develop their research concepts and interact with SHFM members. The teams will also attend the 2021 SHFM National Conference to present the results of their research prior to the publication of their findings and conclusions.

The SHFM Foundation provides educational opportunities for the next generation of hospitality and corporate foodservice leaders through student scholarships, internships, faculty stipends, and course funding to support curriculum delivery. As part of these efforts, the Foundation established the SHFM Foundation Original Research Award Program to benefit the industry, academic community, and students. During this very difficult time with the COIVD-19 pandemic, the SHFM is extremely pleased to move forward with this program award.

We were apprehensive about any school’s ability to conduct research in this environment, however after communicating with our applicants we grew confident that it was not only possible but important to continue”, said Kristi Noyes, Chair, Board of Directors, SHFM Foundation.
