Join Total Food Service and L. Sashin & Associates on January 24 at 9:00am ET for Virtual Breakfast Session #53: Tipping – Reward, Supplement or Imposition?
I remember way back in the old days (any time before the pandemic) when in NYC, it was easy to figure out how to tip. Just double the tax and if your waitperson was really good just add a few dollars and everyone was happy.
Then the pandemic hit and tipping, just like everything else, was turned on its ear. We, the diners were asked not only to tip the server, but also the kitchen staff.
The point of purchase stations put us on the spot by suggesting we tip the person who pours a cup of coffee 20% or more for pulling a lever, and the pizza delivery guy who used to get $2 per order in many cases now expects 20% or more.
The most bizarre tipping request that I heard of was at a pick-ur-own apple orchard where the person who took your credit card and handed out the bags had a tip suggestion on the point of purchase display.
So, what has tipping become? A reward, a supplement or an imposition? Join us on January 24th at 9:00 eastern when our panel of industry leaders will dig deep into this multifaceted topic that only seems to confuse and anger more than satisfy and help.
Do you have an opinion on this subject? Here’s your chance to ask. Pertinent questions asked through the chat feature on Zoom will be answered or addressed in “Realtime”. We look forward to your participation. Register now. Tickets are free for this podcast, but availability is limited.
Your cost is an hour, what you get for it can be immeasurable. Remember to register. Like today’s opportunities, the tickets may be gone tomorrow.
