MA Governor Declares State of Emergency, Asks Businesses to Limit or Eliminate Large Events Where Possible

Following the State of Emergency Declaration by Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, the Massachusetts Restaurant Association announced that the 2020 New England Food Show (NEFS), scheduled to take place March 22-24, at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center in Boston, MA, has been postponed.

On March 10, Governor Baker declared a State of Emergency to help mitigate the spread of coronavirus. Gov. Baker also urged organizers of larger meetings and events to postpone or cancel to assist in this effort.

Statement from Bob Luz, President & CEO, Massachusetts Restaurant Association:

“This decision has been extremely difficult for us due to the impact that it will have on the local restaurant and foodservice community, but based on these recent events, the best course of action is to ensure the health and safety of all participants of New England Food Show. The local New England foodservice industry is an essential part of our economy, and we will continue to support the industry in every way possible.”

“We have been working over the past 10 days with city, state, and federal officials, as well as the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center and the National Restaurant Association to determine the best course of action for our show. Given the Governor’s decision, and his strong statement for private industry to follow his directive, we have made this decision in the best interest of attendees and exhibitors.”

“Our Show Management Team and Venue partners are exploring options to deliver a 2020 New England Food Show later this year. Please look for important follow-up communications from NEFS and our partners that will include logistical details resulting from the postponement.”

“We look forward to announcing a rescheduled NEFS for later this year.”
