Since breaking ground in fall 2016, the team behind the TWA Hotel— the only on-airport hotel at John F. Kennedy International Airport (opening spring 2019)— has been sparing no detail in building an authentic hotel experience. After bringing in world renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten to open a restaurant, the TWA Hotel turned its attention to famed coffee, and chose Intelligentsia Coffee as their exclusive coffee provider last month.
The 23-year-old Chicago-based roaster will open a midcentury modern-inspired coffeebar in the 1962 landmark building designed by iconic architect Eero Saarinen. Throughout the 200,000-square-foot lobby, Intelligentsia’s baristas will also take orders from custom mobile carts. The TWA Hotel marks Intelligentsia’s second New York location in six years.
Renowned for its In-Season coffees, Intelligentsia coffee buyers travel the world — visiting family-owned farms and smallholder co-ops from Honduras to Brazil to Ethiopia — to seek the best crops. The harvested coffee is roasted at peak sweetness, ensuring that each cup offers vibrant flavors for the freshest coffee at JFK Airport.
Both the TWA Hotel coffeebar and carts will serve rotating In-Season, single origin Intelligentsia coffees that are hand-selected daily by the company’s baristas, who each complete 116 hours of training! In addition, espresso drinks and cold coffee — brewed hot and then flash chilled — will be offered. Also available: Sudden Coffee, a high-quality, seasonal instant coffee option for those whose flight is already boarding! Coffee not your grind? Intelligentsia baristas pour a delicious lineup of Kilogram tea varieties including white, green, chai, oolong and tisane.
