The Coronavirus has affected daily life for billions of people around the world. Governments have been forced to close businesses leaving many without a job for the foreseeable future. For those who are unemployed, food security has become a major cause for concern, as they have been left with no way to provide meals to their families. 

Equally important are those who are risking their lives to help combat the virus. Doctors and nurses around the country have been working tirelessly to help those who have been infected. As the Coronavirus continues to spread, the invaluable contributions that healthcare workers have made to the cause must not be overlooked. 

Amid a national crisis, many restaurants and foodservice businesses have taken it upon themselves to support these groups and provide meals to those who need them. Whether it be free meals for children, healthcare workers, or families, the restaurant industry’s response to the virus has showcased the importance of helping community in times of need.

To help highlight those who are giving back to their communities, Food Service Exchange (FSX) has put together a list of restaurants and fundraiser campaigns in New York, California, Washington, and Massachusetts who are offering support in the form of free or discounted meals.

Meals for Healthcare Workers in Buffalo

How They Are Helping: Meals for Healthcare Workers in Buffalo is a GoFundMe designed to aid local restaurants and medical staff in the Western New York area. Every time the campaign recieves $150 in donations, the organizer will purchase lunch for a local hospital/primary care office around WNY.

Feed Our Frontline!

How They Are Helping: Feed Our Frontline is raising funds to order and drop-off food to the nurses, doctors, medical staff and aids in NYC, Long Island and Westchester working to combat the COVID-19 virus. So far, the organizers have partnered with a variety of restaurants and pizzerias to ensure that medical workers across New York are fed.

La Famiglia

How They Are Helping: La Famiglia is offering free meals to those in need every Wednesday. Residents of Smithtown can pick up a family-style Italian dinner that includes penne alla vodka, chicken Parmigiana and a chopped salad between 4:30 and 7 p.m.
