With over 125 years in the industry, Lessing’s Inc. is considered one of the original foodservice industry leaders. The Lessing’s’ brand is considered a family of innovators, as the oldest family-owned, continuously operated, highly diverse foodservice company in the U.S.
After being founded by Maxwell Lessing in 1890, Lessing’s has remained a family owned business over the past 125+ years ranging from their COO, Michael Lessing, to their youngest, Lawrence Lessing, Director of Franchise Group. This is a family business through and through, with 15 family members representing six different generations.
We sat down with Kevin Lessing, Director of Lessing’s Food Service Management to learn more about the company’s recent partnership the company its most recent ventures. LFSM recently partnered with the Queens Center For Progress. QCP is a dedicated facility with the goal of providing children and adults who have developmental disabilities the opportunities to make choices that will maximize their skill development, independence, and integration into community life.
Kevin and his team took on the challenge and went right to work with development. “We’re excited to be on board and working with Queens Center for Progress,” Kevin stated. The Lessing’s family has implemented a variety of new concepts like fresh-to-order items for
both breakfast and lunch. Lessing’s also brought in several made to order stations including salad Central, Sensational Sandwiches, Soup’s On, and Home Zone. These trend oriented dining stations enable Lessing’s to provide customizable, comfortable, quality food for all their clients.
Lessing’s has also begun to work with the New York Medical College and their main campus in Valhalla, NY. NYMC is a member of the Touro College and University System and is one of the largest private health science colleges in the U.S. With an energetic approach Lessing’s brought in a variety of their fresh-to-order items for both breakfast and lunch via their stations like Salad Central and Sensational Sandwiches. In addition Lessing’s will also be handling the campus catering.
Lessing’s Food Service Management doesn’t stop with schools either; as of last month Lessing’s announced a new partnership with Honeywell in Melville, NY. Honeywell is a Fortune 100 company that invents and manufacturers technologies to address some of the world’s toughest challenges linked to global macro trends like energy efficiency, clean energy generation, safety, globalization, and customer productivity. Lessing’s stepped in with Honeywell and began serving breakfast and lunch, Monday through Friday, at the end of February 2017.

e the new year, Lessing’s has partnered with Inficon, a process control software company out of East Syracuse, New York.. Lessing’s and Inficon worked side by side to launch the new Inficon Café to provide breakfast and lunch, Monday through Friday. “The grand opening of Inficon Café was a great success! The professionalism and dedication from the Lessing’s crew was outstanding. Our Café is now a welcoming, positive, experience for all employees and we have been receiving compliments daily on the cheerful atmosphere, the variety of food selections, the wonderful food flavors, and the many choices for office catering and lunches. We couldn’t ask for anything more,” said Peter Maier, President of Inficon.
What makes Lessing’s stand out amongst the vast competition of foodservice management companies is their level of commitment to solving problems for their clients. Not to mention their incredibly long history in the industry. “If there’s an issue, we resolve it. If there are things they suggest, we try to figure out how to do it. That is what puts us ahead; it’s been very successful. We’ve had great growth and we will continue to do so,” Kevin concluded.
