The second annual online Interdisciplinary Research Symposium in Foodservice Decisions, which will focus on ethics in foodservice, will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. EST on Friday, Dec. 9. The event is sponsored by the Food Decisions Research Laboratory in the School of Hospitality Management at Penn State and the Rock Ethics Institute at Penn State.
The purpose of the symposium is to gain a collective, interdisciplinary and international understanding of the issues surrounding food ethics in the foodservice environment. Foodservice ethics relates to the human conduct along the supply chain of production, distribution, preparation and consumption of food. Food away from home (FAFH), particularly in the foodservice environment, is an increasing proportion of food consumption and expenditure. The complexity of this system, and the significance of FAFH activity in people’s lives, makes this an important discussion.
Amit Sharma, associate professor of hospitality finance and director of the Food Decisions Research Laboratory at Penn State, will serve as moderator.
