Following similar polling patterns, the recently released Axios-Harris survey reports a majority of Americans are bracing for even worse coronavirus devastation to come.

Since the turn of the century, any number of deep thinkers have characterized the US as either apathetic or pessimistic about present and future conditions. Whether due to the numerous challenges we all face in our daily lives or the major issues shaping world events the common thread binding apathy and pessimism is loss of control, feeling nearly helpless to really do anything to bring about positive changes and outcomes we want to see.

Throughout history, hospitality has been more than an industry creating memorable experiences, it has led some of the most significant efforts to take needed action.  Over this same 2 decades of apathy or pessimism, restaurants were there to serve 9/11 rescue workers free meals and the industry took Hurricane Katrina lead. Foodservice has not merely rallied when called upon, the industry has been an essential leader; in the face of severe climate threat, we must now do the same!

Total Food Service in collaboration with the Day & Nite family of companies is hosting the inaugural Hospitality Sustainability/Food Waste Summit, to be held Tuesday October 12, 2021, featuring expert panelists and interactive discussion for at least:

      • Localizing Global Sustainability
      • Making Green Thrive in a New World of Clean
      • Food Waste Realities and Best Practices

Each session will end with concrete recommendations and actions we can all take for creating a far better today and future through effective, smart, pragmatic sustainable business practices. Notable Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) authorities such as Hank Boerner and Eric Israel will lead expert panels and moderate lively attendee discussion to shape actionable agendas every foodservice provider can adopt.  By showing all others how we are cleaning up our act, we can count on all other sectors of society to follow.

Optimism is realized through action. Starting at 9 AM EDT Tuesday October 12th, the inaugural Hospitality Sustainability/Food Waste Summit will be held live to a limited capacity audience at NYIT Auditorium, 1871 Broadway in Manhattan (must show proof of vaccination to attend!) and simulcast on Zoom; foodservice’s major step forward to not only restore optimism but to make a difference—just as the field always has.
