Peruvian Chef María José Jordán won best young chef in the S. Pellegrino Young Chef 2015 competition of Latin America and the Caribbean in México City, this past March.

Together with other young chefs, Maria José was part of a select few cooks from Latin America and the Caribbean that competed to win a spot in the world-wide.

Currently, Chef Jordan has been working as a pastry chef at Amazonian-Peruvian jungle-fusion sensation, ámaZ restaurant in Miraflores of Lima. Before ámaZ, she spent a year working in wd-50 in New York City.

The Latin American and Caribbean portion of the contest included eight other cooks hailing from Mexico, Brazil, and Puerto Rico. The ultimate decision was made by Peruvian Mitsuharu Tsumura (Maido), Brazilian Alex Atala (D.O.M) and Jorge Vallejo (Quintonil).

After satisfying the tongues of these judges with a dessert of frozen yogurt, grapefruit, lemon keke, carmelized almonds, and a gin foam, Maria José took the prize. With title as best young chef of the region, she has the opportunity to travel to Milan on June 25 and 26 where she will compete at the Expo Milano 2015 in the final of the first edition of the S. Pellegrino Young Chef 2015.
