World-Renowned Chefs Create Fruits de Mer, Barbeque and Other Seasonal Fare To Benefit Citymeals-on-Wheels at Annual Chefs’ Tribute.

Legendary chefs gathered tonight for a sumptuous seasonal tasting at “Summer by the Sea: The 29th Annual Chefs’ Tribute to Citymeals-on-Wheels.” Presenting their interpretation of coastal and summer fare at tasting stations throughout the Rockefeller Center Plaza, nearly fifty chefs once again united for this highly anticipated culinary event. The event raised $820,000 to support the preparation and delivery of nutritious meals, hand-delivered to homebound elderly New Yorkers.

Rockefeller Center was transformed into a seaside getaway by renowned architect and Citymeals Board Member David Rockwell. More than 1,100 business leaders, gourmet enthusiasts, food industry trendsetters, socialites, young professionals, chefs and restaurateurs enjoyed live music, dancing and spectacular cuisine.

Nick Valenti, CEO of Patina Restaurant Group, was the evening’s Grand Host. The event was chaired by Ninah & Michael Lynne; Laura & John Pomerantz; Randi & Dennis Riese; and Lizzie & Jonathan Tisch. With the help of Beverage Chairs Audrey Saunders (Owner, The Pegu Club) and Daniel Johnnes (Wine Director, Daniel Boulud’s Dinex Group), the event also featured signature cocktails from top spirit sponsors and stellar wines from notable wineries.

“Patina Restaurant Group is proud to host this annual feast at Rockefeller Center on behalf of all the frail aged New Yorkers Citymeals serves each year,” Valenti commented.

“Rockefeller Center sizzled tonight,” said Beth Shapiro, Executive Director of Citymeals-on-Wheels. “We are grateful for the continued support of so many of our longtime chefs and are thrilled to welcome talented rising stars to the Citymeals family.  Thank you to Nick Valenti and Patina Restaurant Group, David Rockwell, our event and beverage chairs, chefs, sponsors, and guests who continue to support this annual event.  Each and every dollar from ticket sales will go towards the preparation and delivery of nutritious meals that serve as a lifeline to our meal recipients”

Also in attendance were Alison Lohrfink Blood, Samantha Boardman & Aby Rosen, Bruce Bozzi, Julie Daum, Randy & Jay Fishman, Aaron & Stephanie Goldman, Gael Greene, Margo MacNabb Nederlander & Jimmy Nederlander, Drew Nieporent and Barbara & Donald Tober.

Official sponsors of Citymeals-on-Wheels are American Airlines and FIJI Water. Major sponsors included Patina Restaurant Group, The M.O. & M.E. Hoffman Foundation, and The Riese Organization. Other sponsors included ARC, Bedell Cellars, Belvedere Vodka, Bernardaud, Citadelle Gin, Courvoisier Cognac, Duane Reade Charitable Foundation, Lexus, Loews Regency, Luxury Worldwide Transportation, NBC 4 New York, Rockwell Group, Saks Fifth Avenue, Specialty Food Association, Travelers, UNIMAC Graphics, Wild Turkey® Bourbon, and Zacapa Rum.

Citymeals-on-Wheels prepares and delivers weekend, holiday and emergency meals for 18,000 homebound elderly New Yorkers. More than 60 percent of Citymeals recipients are over 80 years old; 23 percent are over 90; dozens have lived at least a century.  All recipients are chronically disabled by conditions such as vision loss, diabetes, arthritis and heart disease.  Nearly all need assistance walking.  It is estimated that 66 percent use a cane, 39 percent use a walker and 16 percent use a wheelchair. Citymeals recipients are also isolated: 73 percent live alone; 40 percent rarely or never leave their homes; 8 percent have no one with whom they can talk. Many are also at risk for malnutrition.
